WEDNESDAY 6TH NOVEMBER
THE NAT STEELE QUINTET’S TRIBUTE TO GEORGE SHEARING, MILT JACKSON & THE MODERN JAZZ QUARTET
Nat Steele (Vibraphone)
Colin Oxley (Guitar)
Leon Greening (Piano)
Adam King (Bass)
Bobby Worth (Drums).
On this evening a tribute to two of the all time masters of the vibes.
Battersea born George, later to become Sir George Shearing OBE was, as many will know, blind for all his life and yet became one of the world’s finest vibraphonists.
American Milt Jackson was discovered by Dizzy Gillespie and played the vibes in his big band also working with Woody Herman, Charlie Parker and Thelonius Monk in his time. That experience led him to become a founder member of the renowned Modern Jazz Quartet (1952-74 – 1981-1993).
Cool jazz, swing, blues, bee-pop and classical will no doubt feature in the programme.
